Throughout the United States, citizens with autism can benefit from a type of assistance that helps them with the payment of all their regular bills and day-to-day expenses. Without a doubt, being able to access this type of financial help can make life considerably easier for these United States citizens, as they may occasionally find themselves in financial difficulties.
Today, on World Autism Awareness Day, it is important to highlight this type of help from Social Security and the United States Government, as it is key to ensuring that many citizens have access to a much better standard of living. There is a lot of other help available from other organizations, but the Social Security Administration pays two types of benefits to these United States citizens.
What benefits can citizens with autism apply for?
Regardless of the type of autism, United States citizens can apply for two different types of benefits. On the one hand, there is SSDI, also known as Social Security Disability Income. On the other hand, there is Supplemental Security Income, also called SSI. Both checks are also compatible, so it is possible to apply for both and get them every month.
In order to apply for both checks, citizens with autism must submit all kinds of official documentation to prove their disability. Both medical reports and any other important documents must be submitted to the Social Security Administration at the time of applying for the checks.
Each of these checks has a maximum amount:
- SSDI: $4,018 per month.
- SSI: $967 per month.
It is true that in these cases each of the situations is studied individually, so to find out if we are 100% eligible we must start the process and send all the documents to the Administration. Once we start collecting the checks we will not have to justify anything else, unless our situation changes.
How do I apply for SSDI for citizens with autism?
There are two main ways to apply for this monthly benefit. On the one hand, the process can be completely electronic from the website of the Social Security headquarters. However, if we have questions and need help, we can always go to one of the Administration’s offices.
Remember that you can apply for both benefits and that you can get them every month, so if a citizen with autism is fully eligible for both types of checks, it is best to apply for them as soon as possible in order to enjoy a better quality of life.
