During the month of November, a group of Social Security beneficiaries in the United States will have the opportunity to get three different checks. This is an exceptional situation due to the timing of payments by the Social Security Administration (SSA), which takes into account holidays and weekends to ensure that beneficiaries get their checks on time.
For those retirees who get both Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and their Social Security pension, this month will be key. Throughout November, these retirees will get a check for their regular monthly payment, but they will also be sent another payment due to the timing of December, which begins with a weekend.
3 Social Security Checks in November
Retirees who get both SSI and the Social Security pension will see three checks in their accounts this month. The reason behind this is SSA’s advance planning to ensure payments are made without delay. The checks these beneficiaries will get are as follows:
- November 1: Payment for November Supplemental Security Income (SSI). This payment is made on the first day of the month to all SSI recipients. On this same day, it is also possible to get the Social Security retirement payment if you have had the benefit since before May 1997.
- November 13, 20 or 27: Depending on their date of birth, retirees will get their Social Security retirement payment. If they were born between November 1 and 10, the payment will arrive on November 13; if they were born between November 11 and 20, they will get it on November 20; and if they were born between 21 and 31, their payment will be on November 27. Remember that to be part of these groups it is also necessary to have a retirement payment after May 1997.
- November 29: December Supplemental Security Income (SSI) advance payment . Because December 1 falls on a weekend, the SSA has decided to advance the SSI payment to November 29.
This specific group of beneficiaries, therefore, will see a steady flow of income into their accounts during the month of November.
Who is affected by this triple mailing of Social Security checks?
The mailing of these three payments in November primarily affects two groups of Social Security beneficiaries:
- SSI beneficiaries: Those who get Supplemental Security Income as part of their monthly income. They get two SSI checks this month, the first on November 1 and the second on November 29.
- Social Security Retirees: Beneficiaries who receive their monthly Social Security pension, and who, depending on their date of birth, will get their check between November 13 and November 27.
This system allows SSI retirees and beneficiaries to have the necessary funds to cover their monthly expenses without being affected by the proximity of weekends or holidays, ensuring that payments are made as far in advance as possible.
The check we will get will be completely individual. This means that each citizen gets a different amount depending on his or her work history within the scope of the retirement payment. Even so, Supplemental Security Income depends on other factors, so Social Security determines the amount each beneficiary gets depending on his or her income and resources.
