Social Security payments for thousands of citizens of the United States will increase on February 12, 2024. This check, just before Valentine’s Day, will give citizens a new budget for the rest of the year.
The increase we are talking about is none other than the COLA 2025, which means that Social Security benefits will increase significantly. In 2025 we don’t have a huge increase like we did a couple of years ago, but it is enough to combat inflation to some extent.
Thus, all payments this February 2025 will be directly higher than Social Security payments in February 2024. If we take into account that this comes just before Valentine’s Day for this specific group, we can say that plans for that day may change a bit thanks to this influx of money.
Who gets Social Security for Valentine’s Day?
The next day these checks are sent out will be February 12, 2025. On this day, only group 2 retirees can get the check, so being part of this group of retirees will be enough to get the payment in the bank account.
Thus, group 2 retirees are those who:
- Have started to collect their Social Security benefit since after May 1997.
- Have their birthday between the 1st and 10th day of any month.
Neither the year of birth nor the month of birth are taken into account when getting this payment. Only the exact day of birth is important, as well as the year of retirement. If you are in that group, the Social Security check will arrive before Valentine’s Day 2025. This will be especially true if you have Direct Deposit activated as your collection method.
Remaining Social Security payments in February 2025
The Social Security benefit, which will reach a maximum of $5,180 in February 2025 thanks to the COLA increase, will also be sent out after Valentine’s Day this year. Each group gets their benefit on a different day and this happens every month of the year, so it is important to keep this in mind when organizing household finances. The Social Security system divides retirees into four groups and the first group always gets their check on the 3rd day of each month, with some exceptions.
Thus, retirees who are not in group 1 or 2 may also receive one of these benefits. Groups 3 and 4 get their payment on the 19th and 26th of February 2025. Each group gets their payment according to the requirements they meet.
In this way, for the collection of the Social Security payment on February 19th, we have to have a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month. If you want to get Social Security on February 26th, you have to be between the 21st and 31st of any month. To that requirement you have to add having had your retirement check accepted since after May 1997.
