The Social Security Administration will be paying within a few hours the new retirement payments for United States citizens. If we have one of these checks accepted we should look at the requirements to find out if we are within the group of eligible Americans.

If so, we will be able to enjoy the new check with the corresponding increase, since the 2025 payment will not be the same as the 2024 Social Security checks. With this in mind we can very easily know if we will get the payment on this day or on a different day in January.

Who gets the new Social Security with the increase?

In order to enjoy the Social Security payment on this day in January, two requirements must be met. If we meet both, we will have access to the check. If not, we will have to wait for a different day, since there are more payment days in the month.

Thus, the two requirements to be able to enjoy this benefit on the 15th day of January are:

If we are in this group, we will be able to enjoy the Social Security check this week, since on the 15th of January, the third Wednesday of the month, the Administration will send payment to this group. Also, it is good to keep in mind that it does not matter if our benefit is for retirement due to age, disability or other reasons.

All retirees within that group can get the check regardless of the type of retirement you have. Also remember that if you want to get payment on the same day the check is sent by the Social Security Administration, you must have activated Direct Deposit.

The amount we will get on this day will be higher than in January 2024. This is thanks to the COLA, which has caused these benefits to increase by 2.5% in this current year for all beneficiaries. The cap on Social Security benefits in 2025 is $5,180, but that does not mean that all Americans will get a similar benefit.
