Thousands of United States citizens are expecting to get a Social Security check on the first Wednesday of October, but the United States Administration will not send out payments on this 2nd day of the month. Therefore, it is not possible to collect the new retirement checks today.
And it doesn’t matter what type of benefit we have, just as it doesn’t matter what year we were born, what year we retire, or how much we collect each month. Those elements do not determine whether we get a Social Security payment today or not, since there are no benefit payments being sent today.
Why are there no Social Security payments this October?
The main reason there are no payments on this Wednesday in October 2024 is that it is day 2 and there are no irregularities in all payments for the month. For that reason, there are no payments on this day, since, barring irregularities, on the 2nd of every month there are no planned payments.
Thus, in order to get one of the new payments we have to wait a little longer, since the first of the payment days for the whole month of October is none other than the 3rd day. Well, this is true for retirement and disability payments, but not for Supplemental Security Income payments.
The check for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is already available for United States citizens with this benefit who have activated Direct Deposit. If this collection method has not been activated, it is necessary to wait a few days until the monthly check is finally available.
But the Social Security Administration is not sending out new checks today for all these reasons, so retirees cannot get a new payment today and will have to wait at least until tomorrow to be able to enjoy a new benefit.
