Within everything related to United States numismatics we can sometimes come across true collector’s pieces with a very high value. It is true that these types of pieces are not available to all Americans, but just for the curiosity of history it is worth knowing about the coin or bill in question.
In this case we are talking about a very special $100 bill that has such an interesting history behind it that it has earned it a very high value among United States numismatic collectors. It is not possible to have one of these bills, at least not on a regular basis, but there is one that was auctioned some time ago.
What does the high value $100 bill look like for US numismatics?
This bill appeared in the midst of the United States Civil War around the year 1863. With that in mind it is easy to see why it is one of the most expensive official documents in history. The use of this bill helped the United States finance the war, as it represents an amount of gold deposited inside the United States Treasury.
Therefore, it did not originally have a value like today’s banknotes, but referred to the gold that the United States had in safekeeping. In total we can find only three of these banknotes, according to Heritage Auctions, so it is not easy to be able to have it in our pocket. Only one of these bills is available for auction and the other two are in the Smithsonian Museum.
To identify this banknote we only have to see that the paper is dyed in gold and all the information is added with black ink. On the back we find the phrase 100 dollars next to some gold coins.
Tododisca does not buy or sell coins. To do so, it is necessary to go to an auction house.
