Social Security is sending checks today with some changes

Several groups of United States retirees are waiting to get their new Social Security checks because the Administration has only sent out one of the four checks for the month so far. Even so, today will be the day that new payments are sent out for thousands of retirees, so we can get a check if we are eligible.

The changes to the 2025 benefit payments will start to be seen today for group 2 retirees. If we belong to this group, meeting the two mandatory requirements, we will have access to the payment. If not, there is no need to worry, as the administration will pay us the check regardless of the group. However, the payment will arrive on another day in January if we are not eligible for today’s payment.

Who gets today’s Social Security with the 2025 changes?

Only one specific group can get today’s Social Security payment on January 8, 2025. This group is Group 2 retirees. To belong to this group we must meet two mandatory requirements. There are no exceptions to this, so we must meet both requirements in order to have the payment in our checking account.

The requirements for this 2025 Social Security check are as follows:

In addition, activating Direct Deposit is key to getting your payment on the same day it is sent. If we are eligible for this payment but have not activated Direct Deposit, we will have a check in the next few days of this same week in January.

As for the changes to this payment, we should note that the payment will have the COLA of 2025 added to it. This addition makes the payments have amounts that they did not have before. So we should get a payment in excess of 2024.

The maximum check also changes, being $4,018 for retirees at age 67 and Disability, as well as $5,180 per month for retirees at age 70. In any case, the change in Social Security payments that will be implemented this January can be seen throughout 2025.
