When Tax Season is open in the United States, all taxpaying citizens must be ready to send their Tax Return to the IRS. Otherwise, we will already be causing our Tax Refund to arrive late or, at least, much later than we would like.
After all, the IRS can respond quickly to Tax Return documentation as long as they get it as soon as possible. This kind of process can end up being a bit slow if we don’t know how to deal with it directly. And there are reasons why the IRS might be slower to send everything related to the Tax Refund.
The most common reasons for IRS Tax Refund delays
The truth is that it is bad news to learn that the IRS may send your tax refund late. However, it is very good news that, on the contrary, in most cases the reasons why the tax refund arrives late are avoidable.
Knowing this, we can make sure we are doing things the right way to avoid problems. In this sense, we can look at the following reasons for the delay in the Tax Refund:
- Lack of documents. This is very easy to avoid. Before sending all the documentation, we must check that we have attached everything necessary. The moment we think we have checked everything, we must check it again so that the IRS gets every necessary document.
- Late submission. The later we send the Tax Return, the later the IRS will be able to check it and, therefore, issue the Tax Refund.
- Not using electronic documentation. Nowadays, there are ways to send documentation to the IRS electronically, such as FreeFile or some similar service. If we have the possibility to do so, we should send it this way to speed up the process.
- Not activating Direct Deposit. Another reason for getting your Tax Refund late is not activating Direct Deposit. This collection method is key to getting the money as soon as the IRS sends it.
Knowing all this, we can reach a very simple conclusion, and that is that we should send the documentation as soon as possible, send it electronically and check it carefully before doing so. Only in this way will we be able to enjoy the Tax Refund as soon as possible.
The IRS will keep the 2025 Tax Season open until mid-April this year, but it is not a good idea to wait until the last moment to send the documentation. If we bear in mind that we might need to correct something in the documents, sending them as soon as possible may be the best way to avoid further delays in the Tax Refund, if we are eligible to receive it.
