During the days of this week thousands of United States citizens will be able to enjoy a new Social Security check. The United States Government has already announced the complete schedule of the next payments and the requirements to obtain it. With only two conditions we will be able to get the check in the next few days.
However, this week’s payment is not the last payment of the month. In addition to the check that the Social Security Administration will send out this week, retirees could receive their benefits next week. It all depends on which group of retirees we belong to. If we belong to retiree group 3 we will get our check this week. If not, we will have to wait until next week.
Even so, there are many Americans who already have the payment in their pockets. The Social Security Administration has already sent out two different checks on January 3rd and January 10th. If you are in retiree group 1 or 2, the benefit money should already be in your pocket. If not, the check will arrive this week or we will have to wait another week.
What are the requirements for collecting Social Security this week?
There are two mandatory requirements if we want to get our Social Security payment this week. These two requirements are related to the year of retirement and, in addition, the day of birth. Just having the year of retirement after a particular year and the birthday on a certain day of the month is enough to determine whether we will get the payment soon or not.
The first of these requirements is to have had a retirement check since after 1997. This alone is enough to pass the first of the filters to obtain the next benefit. The second filter is none other than having a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month.
The month of birth does not matter, nor does the year. Only the specific day is important to check whether we are part of group 3 of pensioners or not. And in this case the day must be between the 11th and the 20th of any month.
Still, in January we will have one more payment. That other payment will come on the 24th day of the month and will only be for post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of the month. There is no other payment in January, so with that payment the Social Security Administration will close the month of January.
As for the $59 it should be noted that this is the average increase that beneficiaries have in January 2024. This increase is in reference to last year 2023, as we have had to add the 3.2% COLA. Not all retirees get this increase as is, as each retirement check increases differently.
Some will get a higher benefit than others. The bigger the check in 2023, the bigger the check in 2024. To find out the exact figure we will just have to wait until we get check, although by simply adding 3.2% to the payment we have collected so far from Social Security we will have enough information to determine our benefit.
