The new monthly Social Security benefits payment will arrive in households in the United States on March 12, 2025. On this day, thousands of Americans can get their benefits and enjoy an increased check thanks to the Cost of Living Adjustment.

But this payment on March 12th will not be for all Americans, we have to be eligible to receive the benefit. In addition to that, the maximum check is not available to everyone either, but the benefit increase does increase for all Americans since the beginning of 2025.

Even so, it is true that we are in the third month of the year and that most Americans have already received a payment with the increased Cost of Living Adjustment included. If in your case you have not seen your payment increase compared to last year, you may have to make a claim to the Social Security Administration.

Who receives Social Security with the COLA?

The payment on March 12, 2025 will go exclusively to Group 2 retirees. The increase on that day, therefore, will only be for retirees in this group. However, we must bear in mind that the Administration sends the payments on that day, but that not all Americans in Group 2 can get the check immediately.

The Social Security administration has two requirements for getting this March 12th payment:

The amount we usually receive will not change at all on the day we receive each of the retirement payments. That is why we must meet these two requirements to receive the check on March 12th.

What will the March 12th payment amount be?

The payment we are going to get on March 12th will be the same as what we have received in the previous months of this year. Thus we have seen that the Social Security payment increased by 2.5% this year, which has brought the maximum benefits to $5,180.

However, each American receives their own increase, since it is proportional to the check they received in the previous year 2024. For the moment, all that remains is to wait to receive the March payment, but what is certain is that we will have the same amount that we have received in both January and February of this current year.

Payment of the SSI is quite another matter, since although it increases with the COLA, like other Social Security payments, the amount can change because the Administration increases or decreases the check. The reason is that the amount we get depends directly on what our usual income is. If we increase or reduce income, the SSA will increase or reduce this SSI check.
