The United States Social Security Disability benefit is the only check millions of Americans get. For that reason, getting the payment every month is really important and stopping receiving it can be bad news for them.
Even so, there are some United States citizens who stop collecting the Disability payment and that does not mean they are facing bad news. Sometimes it can happen that when we stop collecting this benefit we find ourselves in a better situation than before.
Circumstances in which we lose the Disability payment
While it is true that stopping the collection of the Social Security Disability payment is bad news most of the time, it is also true that this does not have to be the case. The SSDI benefit payment has several requirements and if we fail to meet them we will stop getting a check.
Therefore, we should be aware that in the following circumstances we will stop getting the Social Security Disability payment:
- We enter prison.
- We cease to have a disability.
- We reach full retirement age.
In the first case we will stop collecting this check until we are released from prison. In some cases we might not get this payment anymore. It will all depend on each individual situation. However, in the other two circumstances stopping the Disability check can be good news.
If our case was that the Disability payment came because we were unable to work, no longer having a disability will mean that we can return to work. In the other case, reaching full retirement age will sometimes give us an even bigger check. So it’s not all bad news if we stop getting the Disability payment.
When does the new Disability payment arrive?
In the next week we may have a new Social Security Disability payment if we are eligible for it. The payment will be on August 21st and only Group 3 retirees can get this check. However, non-disability retirees also have access to the check.
To be eligible for this payment it is necessary to meet two requirements:
- Have a retirement payment, either for Disability or other reasons, since after May 1997.
- Have a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month.
These two conditions will cause the August 21st Social Security Disability payment to arrive in our checking account. If we have activated Direct Deposit as a collection method, we can have the check immediately in our checking account.
Not having this collection method activated will mean that the money will appear, but a few days later. Either way, the benefit payment will appear in the current account of all eligible beneficiaries. Those who are not eligible for payment on this day may also get the payment on a different day of the month depending on the group to which they belong.
