The moment in an American’s life when their Social Security payment starts to arrive in their bank account is undoubtedly a really important one. After all, the payment of this benefit marks a before and after in every household in the United States, as the citizens who get these payments stop working and start their golden years.
These checks arrive on different days of the month and April 9th is a day when a specific group of Americans will be able to enjoy this monthly benefit. Retirement checks have an advantage over wages as a worker, and that is that, at the end of the day, we can always know in advance when we will have the money available.
How do I get today’s Social Security payment?
In order to get today’s Social Security check, we are going to need to take two things into account. If we meet two mandatory requirements, we will find that the Administration sends us the check, but on the other hand we will find that the payments may or may not arrive today if we have activated the faster collection method.
The two requirements to be in the group that receives the payment today are:
- Having applied for retirement benefits in the month of May 1997 or any subsequent month.
- Having a birthday between the 1st and 10th day of any month of the year.
To this we must add the activation of Direct Deposit, which is the fastest collection method for these benefits. If we have access to this collection method, the check will always arrive at the moment the Administration sends it. If we do not have this method activated, the money will appear a few days later.
Remaining Social Security payments in April
Before the end of April the Social Security Administration will send more payments to United States citizens with an accepted benefit. If we take into account that there are four payments in total, we can conclude that half of the April payments are yet to arrive.
So, the next payment days in April will be:
- April 16th. Social Security retirement payments for group 3 beneficiaries.
- April 23rd. Retirement checks for Social Security group 4.
Remember that for these two groups we must meet a common requirement, which is to have the payment from after May 1997. On the other hand, each payday has a specific requirement. For group 3 it is to have your birthday between the 11th and 20th of the month. For group 4 it is to have your birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month.
