Since a United States citizen begins collecting a monthly SSA payment they may know the approximate date of their next paychecks. In the case of December, the truth is that some retired Americans may get two different payments even though this month’s SSI payment is earlier than November.
Thus, we must take into account the entire payment schedule for both December and January. That is, within the month of January we find that the SSI payment is due on the 1st, but that day is a holiday. Therefore, the Administration brings the payment forward to the 31st of December. This means that those with Direct Deposit activated will be able to enjoy this payment early.
But in order to get two payments before the end of this month of December we must take into account that we must be part of group 4. After all, all other groups of retirees have already received their SSA payments in the weeks leading up to the last payment of the year.
Who can get two SSA payments in the near future?
Social Security payments are always sent out on an approximate date. The payment schedule follows a pattern of sending checks on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of each month. This is for retirees after May 1997, but those prior to that year get their payments on the 3rd, except when it is a holiday.
With this in mind it is easy to know which retirees will get two SSA payments before the end of this month. These are the payment days and the requirements to qualify for them:
- December 24. Social Security payment for post-May 1997 retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of any month. This means that only group 4 retirees can get the benefit on this day.
- December 31. January 2025 SSI advance payment. This payment can be a huge joy for retirees with this benefit because it also includes the 2025 COLA. So this check payment is larger than the SSI payment for previous months this year.
Anyway, we must remember that if we do not have Direct Deposit activated we will not be able to get the payment in these days, but a few days later. In this sense, the collection method greatly determines whether we get the payment immediately or not. And this is true for any of the SSA payments.
