The requirements to get each of the Social Security retirement checks in the United States are very exact on each payment day. So we must know which group of retirees we belong to in order to mark our payment day on the calendar.
And once we know the Social Security payment day we just have to wait for that particular day to get the money. We don’t have to claim the payment as a general rule, with exceptions on some days. So most of the time we won’t even have to wait a day to get a check.
Requirements for the next Social Security payment
The day when the Social Security Administration will send the new retirement payment will be on June 3rd, 2024. On this day, Group 1 beneficiaries will have access to this month’s check. Therefore, only a specific group will be able to get the monthly benefit.
The rest of the beneficiaries will collect the same, but in the following weeks. And is that two requirements must be met if we want to get the payment on the same day June 3rd. The requirements are:
- To have a benefit since before May 1997.
- To have Direct Deposit activated as a collection method.
This last requirement is not mandatory in order to receive the payment on this day, but it is necessary in order to obtain the benefit on the same day of the remittance. In other words, if we do not have Direct Deposit but we meet the other requirement, the payment will arrive, but a few days later.
Can I change the day I collect Social Security?
It is not possible to change the day we get our Social Security check each month. And the reason for this is very simple, because the payment schedule is determined by several characteristics about the beneficiary information.
The two main pieces of information that determine when we collect our retirement check each month are the year of retirement and the day of birth. Since both of these elements cannot be changed, we cannot change the day on which we get the benefit.
It’s as simple as that, so make sure you organize your monthly calendar well so that you have enough money each month. Once you know when you get your Social Security, you will always know when you will be able to collect it next month.
