Receiving a new monthly Social Security Disability Retirement check in the United States can be a great advantage for beneficiaries. After all, many of these citizens have no other source of income, making this money truly essential to them.
However, the Social Security Administration sends out four different checks during the month and one of the disability retirement groups has to wait until the last payment to receive their monthly benefit. So if you are in this specific group of citizens you will be able to enjoy the check on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
The rest of the retirees, whether they are on disability or not, who belong to groups 1, 2 or 3 can enjoy this check on any of the other payment days in April. Of course, it is important to know that we can only receive one of the payments, so if we get the check on April 3rd we will not be able to get it later on the 9th or 16th of the same month.
Disability payments on the fourth Wednesday of April
In order to receive the Disability Retirement check on the fourth Wednesday of April 2025, we will have to meet two basic conditions. If we do not meet them, the payment will not arrive on this day, but on a different one. We will receive our payment every month, that’s for sure, but the specific day depends on whether we are in group 1, 2, 3 or 4.
If you have been receiving a disability benefit since after May 1997, you will be in one of the following groups: group 2, group 3 or group 4. Your birthday will determine which of these four specific groups you are in. So you have to check this information.
To be part of the specific group 4, the second requirement is that your birthday must fall between the 21st and 31st of any given month. If you meet these two requirements, you will be paid on the fourth Wednesday of April, i.e. on the 23rd of the month. Remember that without Direct Deposit you will not be able to get your payment immediately, but will have to wait a few days for the money to appear in your checking account.
More Disability Payments
If we take all this into account, we should also bear in mind that after the payment on April 23rd, there will be no more Disability payments until May 2025. To be exact, on May 1st, some Americans with Disabilities will be able to get an extra check from Supplemental Security Income.
SSI payments are made on the 1st of each month, with some exceptions. This benefit is available to citizens with a disability or to Americans over the age of 65. The maximum check is $967 and the amount depends directly on your monthly income.
