The moment a United States citizen begins collecting a Social Security benefit, whether for Disability or other reasons, their income is often stagnant, as there is no way to intentionally increase retirement checks. However, inflation doesn’t stop at any point for anyone, so in the end these retirees see their benefits fall a bit behind.
But it is true that thanks to the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), all Social Security beneficiaries, whether Disability or other types of benefits, can somehow cope with this price increase. Still, the annual COLA may be too small, so it all also depends on how we want to approach the income we get each month.
Budgeting can be a really useful thing to do, but we should also keep in mind at all times that this COLA increase is not yet official. It is certain that starting next year we will get this increase, but it is also possible that the figure will not reach as much as the forecasts are announcing.
What will the Social Security Disability increase be in 2025?
With the official COLA figure yet to be announced all we can do is keep in mind the forecasts of experts on the subject. Thus, The Senior Citizens League has spoken forthrightly that we would be looking at a 2.5% COLA for 2025 Social Security checks, including Disability payments.
If this is ultimately the case, United States citizens with a Disability benefit could have a maximum check of $3,917 per month. This would bring beneficiaries in this class very close to nearly $4,000 per month. That is, only if they get the maximum SSDI check. All other beneficiaries will get the same payment as before plus 2.5%.
Upcoming Social Security Disability payments
In October it is possible to get one of these new Social Security Disability checks, although they do not yet include the 2025 COLA. To get the COLA we will have to wait until January of next year at the earliest.
The schedule of upcoming payments is as follows:
- October 1st: Supplemental Security Income payments for all Supplemental Security Income recipients.
- October 3rd: Pensioners with a benefit prior to May 1997 can get this payment.
- October 9th: Retirees with post-May 1997 checks with birthdays between the 1st and 10th receive payment on this day.
- October 16th: Retirees with post-May 1997 checks with birthdays between the 11th and 20th receive payment on this day.
- October 23rd: Retirees with checks after May 1997 with birthdays between the 21st and 31st get payment on this day.
Remember that in order to obtain payments on the same day they are sent we must have Direct Deposit activated as a collection method. Also, not only Disability beneficiaries can obtain this benefit, since any other beneficiary who meets the requirements can get the check without any problems.
Similarly, the amount also has no bearing on the day of the month that we get each of the checks. So, just by taking into account the above requirements, we will be able to determine when in the next few weeks we will receive our monthly Social Security Disability benefit.
