Next January 17th, 2024 the United States Social Security Administration will send a new check to the beneficiaries. This payment will arrive only for some of these Americans, since it is necessary to meet certain requirements if we want to obtain the payment. Even so, the rest of the retirees who do not meet these requirements do not have to worry about anything, since the payment will arrive on another day of the month.
Therefore, those Social Security retirees with a benefit already accepted can enjoy the payment in the month of January, that is for sure. Having it this week or getting it next week is only a matter of the group to which each retiree belongs. Likewise, it is also possible to already have the check in your pocket, since the Administration has already sent two checks this month.
In this sense, retirees from groups 1 and 2 got their checks on January 3rd and 10th. Now it is the turn of group 3 retirees and the Social Security Administration will send this check on the 17th day of the month. Any retiree in this group can even get paid on the same day the Administration sends it if they activate the appropriate collection method.
How to get the January 17th Social Security payment?
There are two mandatory requirements that must be met in order for us to collect the January 17th Social Security check. However, a third requirement must be met if we expect to get the payment on the same day it is mailed. In order to receive the payment, you must be a Group 3 retiree.
Social Security retirees who belong to group 3 have the following requirements:
- Have a birthday between the 11th and 20th day of any month.
- You must have applied for retirement after 1997.
Only if these two conditions are met, the Administration will send us a check in the next few days. However, in order to obtain the check immediately, we must meet another requirement. The third condition is to have Direct Deposit activated. Thanks to this method of payment, we will not have to wait even one day to have the money available in our bank account.
When are the other retirement payments in January?
Apart from the payment on January 17th, 2024, the Social Security Administration will send another check this month. This other check will be the last one for all of January, so after it we will have to wait until February before we can get the benefit again.
The last day of collection will be January 24th. On this day, group 4 retirees will have access to the benefit. In order to belong to this group, two requirements must be met. The first requirement coincides with one of the requirements of the previous group: having the retirement benefit since after 1997.
The other requirement is to have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month. The month is not important in determining whether or not we have access to the check. What matters is the exact day of birth. As in the previous case, by activating Direct Deposit we will be able to enjoy immediate access to the Social Security retirement payment without having to wait a single day to get it.
