United States Social Security benefits arrive on different days of the month depending on which group of retirees we belong to. In the case of January, we will have up to 4 different days of payments. To that we must add an extra day in which, due to an irregularity in the calendar, we can count on almost 1,000 extra dollars.
But in the event that we only have one retirement payment, either for Disability or for any other type of Social Security benefit, in January 2025 we can get up to 5,180 dollars in the next few weeks. One of these payments has already left the Administration’s offices, so we could have it in our checking account if we are eligible.
When do Social Security payments of up to $5,180 arrive in January?
The day we get the payment depends on which group of retirees we belong to. Thus, many retirees with a Social Security benefit prior to May 1997 already have a payment. This group is group 1 and got their payment on January 3rd. At least, the Administration sent a check on that day to everyone in this group.
The other groups are those who have a benefit since after May 1997. That is the first of the requirements for the next payments, but we have to keep in mind that each Social Security payment day has an additional requirement. So, apart from that requirement, we have to take into account that:
- January 8th payment is for retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of any month.
- The payment on the 15th of January is for retirees with birthdays between the 11th and the 20th of any month.
- The payment on the 22nd of January is for retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of any month.
Fulfilling these requirements is more than enough to get the payment for these days. So check to see what time of the month you can get your check for up to $5,180.
How to get your Social Security payment quickly?
The truth is that those days marked on the calendar belong to the days when retirement checks are sent out. That does not mean that Americans can have the payment on that specific day, since the collection method influences the day on which we have the money available.
If our intention is to have the money on the same day that the Social Security Administration sends it, we have to activate Direct Deposit. This collection method is the fastest of all, as it is immediate. If we do not have this collection method activated we will have to wait around 3 days to have the money available in the bank current account.
